Sously

Hands-free cooking

You saved the recipe.
Now actually cook it.

Sously reads every step aloud, keeps the text big enough to read from the far side of the kitchen, and runs the timers for you. Your hands stay busy.

Sously in Cook Mode: a large step card reading Bring a large pot of well salted water to a rolling boil, above a molten amber timer ring reading 04:54.

Cook mode

Huge steps, one at a time.

The step fills the screen in type you can read from across the counter, on a dark theme that will not blind you at midnight. Nothing scrolls away, nothing crowds it, and the next step waits quietly underneath so you always know what is coming.

  • Readable at arm’s length with wet hands
  • A running count, so you always know how far in you are
  • The screen stays awake while you cook
  • Advance with a swipe, or let it move on by itself

Voice

It talks. You cook.

Every step is read aloud — by your own device, in your own language, so there is nothing to sign into and nothing streaming from a server. Keep your eyes on the pan instead of the phone.

  • Narration you can mute, pause, or play again
  • Tap the centre of the ring to hear the step a second time
  • Timers that call out instead of quietly buzzing
  • Pro adds a voice and speed picker

Your recipes

Any recipe. Yours, from a link, or typed in.

Paste a recipe link and Sously lifts the ingredients and steps out of the page. If a site blocks that or does not publish its recipe in a readable form, paste the text instead, or type it in yourself.

  • Scale the servings and every quantity is refigured
  • Tick ingredients off as you go
  • Reorder, split and merge steps in the editor
  • Save what you love — unlimited on Pro

The small things

Details that only matter when you are actually standing at the hob.

Timers that call out

Pasta water and the sauce, both timed. Spoken alerts mean you hear it from the next room.

Cooking for a different number

Change the servings and the quantities change with you — halves, quarters and all.

Dark for the eveningPro

Kitchen Dark for late cooking, Linen for daylight. Both easy on the eyes.

Yours alone

No account, no ads and no trackers. Your recipes stay on your device.

Questions

Straight answers, including the ones people ask before installing.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Sously has no accounts and no sign-in of any kind. Open it and cook.

Does it work offline?

Cooking does, and your saved recipes live on your device. Importing a new recipe from a link needs a connection, because Sously has to fetch the page to read it.

Which recipes can I add?

Anything you can paste a link for, anything you can paste as text, and anything you want to type in yourself. Some sites block automated reading or do not publish their recipe in a form that can be read — where that happens, pasting the text works.

What exactly is free?

Unlimited cook-alongs and up to five saved recipes, for as long as you like. Pro raises the saved-recipe limit, adds parallel timers, a narration voice and speed picker, and a second theme.

What does Pro cost, and can I cancel?

$2.49 a month or $15.99 a year. You can cancel any time and you keep Pro until the period ends.

What does Sously do with my data?

No accounts, no ads and no trackers. Sously handles your recipes with respect: they stay on your device. The privacy policy sets out the single exception — a link you paste is fetched by our parser so it can be read, and nothing is stored from it.

Which devices does it run on?

Android phones and tablets running Android 7.0 or newer.

Who makes Sously?
